Ideas for Prom Tuxedos

Hello Members,

Proms are meant to be special events that will leave you with memories of your youth forever. Make your prom more memorable by really personalizing the experience. It is possible that you are the type of person that will be most comfortable in a standard tuxedo. That is fine. If that is not your style, however, you have other options. Let your attire match your sense of style on prom night and look just as good as you feel.

Traditional: They key to wearing a traditional tuxedo to your prom is the fit. Have yourself measured at a reputable tuxedo rental shop or by a tailor. Ask for advice in regard to the length of your jacket and the number of buttons. Try on several types of traditional tuxedos to get the best idea of how it fits on your particular frame. Opt for a waist-length jacket for a relaxed and casual look or wear a coat with tails for a more formal look. If extremely formal is your goal, complement your tuxedo with a top hat. No matter the style, you can add a vest or cummerbund to match the colors of your date's dress.

Zoot Suit: Add some spice to your prom night by dressing like a gangster from the 1930s or 1940s. A zoot suit is made up of high-waisted, wide-legged, tight-cuffed, pegged trousers and a long coat with wide lapels and wide padded shoulders. Pair the jacket with a long tie. The most formal zoot suits were pinstriped. Complement the look by wearing shiny dual-colored patent leather shoes, a gold chain that hangs from the waist to the knee and a fedora with a feather attached to its band.

1970s: Take your prom back in time to the days of disco by choosing to wear a tuxedo that was commonly worn during that era. For a wild and funky 1970s look, opt to wear a brightly colored jacket over black pants. Pastel colors such as blue, green, yellow and orange were common choices. Keep the look authentic by wearing a shirt with a ruffle front and a bow tie.

1980s: To achieve a casual yet formal 1980s look, wear a tuxedo with matching lightweight colored jacket and pants. Wear the jacket open with a casual shirt underneath without buttons or a silky colored shirt with buttons. Wear slightly baggy pleated pants that are slightly too short and polished shoes without socks. Finish the look with dark wire-framed sunglasses. Think about Don Johnson from the television show "Miami Vice" when planning this look.

Thanks and Regards
