Furniture which knows for their unique features, considerable age, rarity and condition is called Antique furniture. It is used by homeowners for furnishing and it’s also support the human body for seating or resting. Sometimes it is used for storage or hold objects on horizontal surfaces above the grounds. In early days furniture was simple and made from wood but in modern days furniture became crafted & decorated, it also available in other materials such as metal and plastic. Antique ArmoiresArmoire is a French word which also known as wardrobe. It is used for storing clothes. There are three types of wardrobes available in the market; American, UK, and Italian type. Antique armories are made from precious wooden that’s why it’s called antique.
Antique BedsBeds are piece of furniture which is used for resting & sleeping. If we talk about antique beds, in early days beds are made from natural material like heap of palm leaves. In 15th century very large beds are made which size 7–8 feet by 6–7 feet. 17th century has been called “the century of magnificent beds” because in this century lot of stylish and handmade beds was made.
Antique CabinetA cabinet is a box-shaped piece of furniture with doors and drawers for storing different items. In early days cabinets are also known as a Linen-Press. First time British peoples used oak wood in its construction for make stylish and antique cabinets. Some antique cabinets are also placed in different Museums.
Antique ChairA chair is used for sitting; commonly one person sits at a time. It has four legs and a back but in modern days three leg chairs are also available. Antique chairs were made from wooden materials such as Oak, Poplar, Teak and many more. These chairs were handmade and lot of artwork done by special art workers.
Antique ChestChest is the oldest form of furniture which also known as coffer or kits. It is rectangular in shape with four walls and a liftable lid which used for storage. In early days antique chest was also used for storage of fine cloth, weapons and other precious items.
Antique ClockIf we talk about clock; it is the oldest human inventions. Clock is used to indicate, keep, and co-ordinate time. Its styles and designs are change in every year. In 16th century three dials clock was made which shows the hours, minutes and seconds. The first pocket watches were made in around 1510 which called “Nuremberg Egg”. French rococo bracket clocks were one of the antique clocks which placed in Museum of Time, Besancon, France.
Antique CupboardCupboards are also used for storage household objects such as food, crockery, textiles and other miscellaneous items. The other names of cupboard are bookcase, buffet, cabinet, desk and hutch. Antique cupboard was made from different type of wood and two common types are available; Airing Cupboard & Linen Cupboard.
Antique DresserIt is a small table which has one or two drawers so called tallboy or highboy chest of drawers. In US it is known as lowboy and called a dressing table in Britain. Antique Dresser is made of oak, walnut and mahogany. It is also equipped with a mirror used for applying makeup and other fashion.
Antique FireplaceFireplace is designed to contain a fire for heating or cooking. It has variable heat efficiency that’s why many organizations warn that fireplaces are not good for health. There are two types of fireplaces are available; Masonry and Manufactures fireplaces. In early days ancient fireplaces were built in ground or in the center of a hut. In 16th century Prince Rupert improved the quality of fireplaces by making the airflow and venting system.
Antique MirrorPeoples were used ancient mirrors to see their faces and sometimes it is used for decoration and architecture. German Chemist Justus von Liebig was the first person who made silver-glass mirror in 1835. In past years ancient mirrors were made from solid metals such as bronze and silver. These types of mirrors show darker image because of low reflectivity of polished metals.
Antique TableTables have a flat surface which provides to support objects of interests, show manipulation and for storage. It has four legs and made from different wood. Egyptians were first time used tables to keep objects off the floor which was made from stone. In china it was also used for writing and painting. In 16th century tables were made from oak wood which was quite long and wide.
